Yes, Your Customers Still Use Email

It's been close to a month in a half since I wrote a post about How Do You Digitally Start Your Day and in the post I mentioned that I would comeback with an update on the numbers.  Well today is that day.  Here is a quick snapshot of how the readers of my blog digitally start their day.

Digitallystartpoll
As you can see 67% of the readers of my blog view their email first, 28% go to Facebook first and then 6% visit a news site first.  I was hoping to see more people say they came to this blog first.  I guess I need to amp it up here.  Ok, enough about me.  :-)

What does this say?

Well, I think it shows that email is still the hub of all communications for most people and it shows that we cannot ignore this method of communcation as a business.  The trick is how do we improve our engagement with said customer using email?  Here are a few ideas that pop into my head when thinking about this:

  1. VIP Newsletter - Chris Brogan is the master of this.  He creates very different content for his newsletters, compared to what he writes on his blog.  We have a decent one as well, so please sign up. :-)
  2. Training - Maybe your business can provide some training via email.  I have taken a few courses online recently all done via email and a blog.  Quite efficient and effective.
  3. Sharing - Don't be afraid to share some great opportunities with your customers/subscribers.  They will truly appreciate this.

As you can see, my quick poll is not far off from a recent study by Exact Target/CoTweet.  So don't throw away that email yet....maybe some day, but not just yet. ;-)
