Where do you get your inspiration from?

We all have our own niches and things we do.  And with those where do we look for inspiration?  Being a web entrepreneur a lot of my inspiration comes from the Internet.  However, I am not a 100% geek and I do have some offline things that inspire me: family, close friends, books, nature etc.  For today though, I am going to be all geek.  I will share my offline inspirations with you for another day.

So here are some of the things I do in my life.
  • Father and Husband
  • Web Entrepreneur
  • Hockey Fan
  • Balance/Leadership
  • Music
Now what I wanted to do was share with you some of the places I gather inspiration online for these topics.  I was hoping you could share yours and we could create an awesome resource for topics we are passionate about.  If no one else shares, then at least you can all see where a draw inspiration from online. :-)

Well here they are:
  • Father and Husband
    • Zen Family Habits -  Is a blog written by Leo Babauta and Sherri Kruger. Zen Family Habits is all things family. It’s about living simply and with presence of mind.  I have gotten some great tips from this blog.
    • Facebook - Ya, I know it sounds crazy, but I love learning from other parents in FB.  The things they do with their family, photos etc.  Great resource.  I think :-)
  • Web Entrepreneur
    • Mashable - One of the most visited blogs in the world.  Great resource for what's hot in the social media space.
    • Gary Vaynerchuk - I love his no non-sense approach to using the Internet to have a positive impact on your biz.  Love his passion!
    • Seth Godin - Seth Godin makes things sound so simple.  He really has a great way of explaining marketing in laymen terms.
  • Hockey Fan
    • NHL - I go to NHL.com a lot for stories and Gamecenter.  I have to say their Gamecenter web package is awesome.
    • Puck Daddy -  Great hockey blog with a great sense of humour.
    • Kingscast -  As you know we have our own hockey web tv show over at The Hockey Zen.  For show ideas and tips we learn a lot from the guys over at Kingscast who produce an awesome show on the LA Kings, called Overtime.
  • Balance/Leadership
    • Robin Sharma - If you have read my blog at all you would know I am a huge fan of Robin Sharma.  Lead Without Title says it all.
    • The Journey - A blog written by my bro Adrian.  Check it out.  Adrian shares some really great information.
    • Zen Habits - Leo Babauta first blog.  Awesome information on being present, productive, fit and following your passion.
  • Music
    • Grooveshark - The best Internet radio website going.  Just love it.
Well there you have it.  I have others, but I didn't want to overwhelm you.  What sites do you use for inspiration?  Please share.

Believe me, Chris, The Hockey Zen is as much, if not more so of an inspiration to us as we are to you.

Shannon Paul's My Very Offical Blog is a great one, Conversation Agent, Chris Brogan, Mitch Joel, Rohit Bhargava andCopy Blogger are excellent blogs which I try and read almost every day. You should look them up! I have met everyone of those people in person just NOT Copy Blogger. That is as far as marketing goes.

I really don't follow any hockey communities but yours. I think it is because I am in the arena 45% of the time. I have been averaging not working one game per month so I am really spoiled.

Hi Chris,

An interesting post. I find a lot of my inspiration in the work I do and in the people of the world. Everyday I see the poverty, the addictions, the disease, the dis-ease, the unhappiness, etc. It can be difficult to absorb it all, especially in a world that has become so connected yet so dis-connected. However, I look around and see people putting their best foot forward despite the above mentioned concerns and they inspire me everyday. I am very grateful and blesses and never forget that. I also enjoy Adrian's blog as it is full of useful resources and it reminds me that there are people, like me, around. That is comforting. Sorry, I don't have a lot of online resources to share :-) However, some good authors for people who are interested would be:

Eckhart Tolle
Wayne Dyer
Deepak Chopra
Gary Zukav
Dalai Lama
Jack Canfield
Stephen Covey

No problem bro.   You and your blog are very inspiring.  I will have to check out the Google Code one :-)

Danny, thanks for sharing your thoughts on your work and it must be so rewarding to be surrounded by people putting their best foot forward to make a difference.  Your community work is very inspiring to me and we are lucky to have you in Saint John making a difference.  Thanks for sharing the authors that inspire you.  I have read Tolle, Chopra, Canfield, Covey and Adrian shares a lot of Dalai Lama's thoughts and writings with me.  All great stuff!

I forgot Amber Naslund. I read her blog and she is always teaching something valuable. She totally understands the social space, the value to business and how to put them together. I met her and Chris Brogan at Module 09 and you should try attend Future Midwest (sort of like South x South West but in its infancy and in Detroit.) I don't think she is presenting there this year but you can learn a lot from there. *No I am not on the board.*

Hey guys - thanks so much for the kind words. And I may yet be at Module this year if I can make it happen with the schedule. :) Thanks again for the recommendation. Input is always welcome. :)
