4 Things I Learned From The Olympic Athletes

The Games dominated my life for the past two weeks, so I thought it would be great to reflect on what I have learned over the last two weeks.  Here are 4 things that stand out to me:

1.  Passion - Follow it and do it.  Clara Hughes said it best after she won bronze in the 5000M.  I love skating and it has done so much for me.  The best thing parents can do is let children follow their interest at a young age.

2.  Work Hard - Watching all the athletes perform at the Olympics, you can see the effort as they stretch for that finish line, or dive to make a play.  Every ounce of energy is being put forth to do their best and reach their goal.  None of them are an overnight success, even though it may look like it.

3.  Be thankful - Be thankful for those that have helped you get to where you are.  We are kidding ourselves if we think we can do everything on our own.  All of the athletes were very thankful and grateful for those who helped them get to where they are.

4.  Be in the momemt - Alexandre Bilodeau said it best after making history and winning Canada's first Gold Medal on home soil, "I had no regrets on what I've done the last four years." He knew, he said, he could go for the gold, and "what will happen, will happen."

What did you learn from the athletes?  Can we take the same characteristics and adapt them to every day life?  I think so.

I will leave you with a quote:

When you go after what you want, with love and wild abandon, you tap into the energy that created the stars and the seas.  A kind of magic begins to enter your life and things happen that defy your comprehension.  Signs start to appear, suggesting that you are on the right track -- Daily Inspiration, Robin Shamra

I couldn't agree more with this. I was filled with emotion and motivation for 2 weeks straight watching (into the wee hours of the morning out here on the East Coast) these games! The coverage here in Canada was amazing, I don't think I missed anything that I wanted to see.

The coverage was lackluster in the States. Pardon me if I don't watch your dedication to Sid. ICK! Well I think the Games itself is a testment to how the athletes train and maybe there was a little bit of peace with it. With Joannie Rochette the ice was her home and now she has to face reality. My heart broke for her because I still don't know how she did it. When I lost my Mom, I couldn't eat or sleep yet alone compete on the World's stage.
